Athletics Ontario Provincial Trail Running Championships

The 13km race is open to all, just like all other races in the MEC Ottawa Trail running series! We are delighted to announce that the race will also serve as the inaugural Athletics Ontario Provincial Trail Running Championships. At the conclusion of the race, Athletics Ontario will award the overall winners and age group winners with their provincial championship awards (MEC race awards will happen for overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd Male and Female athletes, regardless of province).

Placings will be decided according to Gun Time (i.e. first across the line at the finish)

To enter the race as an elite and be placed in the front of the starting corral, please follow this link (qualification standards must be met): CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

Absolutely no littering. Please pack out your trash or leave it at an aid station!

No dogs or other pets.

No pacers.

No hiking poles.

No headphones.

No Strollers (the trail is too rough!).

This is a friendly race. If you wish to pass someone on the trail from behind, please let them know by calling “on your left!” and the runner infront will step to the right.

5k / 200m D+

The 5km race begins by climbing the Ole K&P Trail ski run, before branching off right to join a wide double track old logging path leading gradually uphill eventually joining the Manitou Mountain Trail. Next up is the brutally steep “ascent” trail, followed by the stunning views as you catch your breath running the flat(ish) rocky ridge line of the skywalk loop. Skywalk takes you to the summit of Calabogie Peaks, and into a rapid descent back to the resort and the finish line.

13k / 455m D+

The 13km event begins as the 5k, climbing Ole K&P, up to the summit of the mountain via the Manitou Mountain Trail, “ascent” and back into the resort via the descent of Skywalk, at this point spectators will have a great opportunity to see runners pass again before heading out on simply stunning technical trails to the Red Arrow Rock Lookout, along the incredible rocky ridge line of Manitou Mountain Lookout before flying downhill to the finish at the resort.

Trails for both courses will be marked on the Friday, so you can check out the course on Saturday before racing on Sunday.

Learn the secrets of a proper warm up for a race of this kind, by warming up with local elite racers. Unis Pour Le Sport / United For Sport will be on site at Camp Fortune to lead a seminar for 45 minutes prior to the start of the 5K and 9K races. This essential session will set you up to run hard right out of the gate, and will be taught by some of the best athletes from the Outaouais:

Maxime Leboeuf - Maxime is one of the best runners in Canada on both trail and road. Maxime won the 2016 edition of the Fortune Fell race setting a huge course record of 44:48, ran 2:25 at the Boston Marathon, and 31:37 at the Ottawa 10K. He also has a great passion for winter sports, racing in cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and winter triathlons.
